THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT DURING COVID

Posted on: 25 November

As we take some time to reflect on the strangeness of the last 20 odd months and in particular our club being divided based on postcodes, we can all now take a big sigh of relief that our community is back and whole again.

Doing what you love to do at our Club … Golf, banter, compete, connect, laugh and repeat.

Without doubt it has been a difficult period, especially for our Metro members.  We thank you all for your continued support and patience.

After last year’s lockdown ended, we were able to make a tangible recognition of the interrupted season for all members. We added 8 weeks and 6 weeks to the membership year for Metro and Regional members respectively, as well as everybody getting $50 added to their bar account. We were one of the few clubs who did even that but we were happy to do so.

This year things are a bit tougher. Over the whole of the pandemic period we have had to make most of the payments we would make under normal conditions – course upkeep being the major cost area but also insurances, rates and so on. In 2020 the government(s) helped a lot in covering these costs, but in 2021 their support has been nowhere near as much. Unfortunately, we are also at a time when three of our most essential and expensive pieces of course maintenance equipment are beyond economic repair and have to be replaced.

So our funds are taking a bit of a battering.

Despite our wish to somehow recognise the lost period of golf for Metro members, the impact on the club’s financial position is such that the committee does not believe it is prudent to offer any compensation this year.

I’m optimistic that our community will understand this and continue to support the Club that we love and know post Covid.

Thank you all… it’s time to focus again on Golf, banter, competition, connection and laughs.

Many thanks,

Alastair Boustead
