North West Senior Pennant Update

Posted on: 23 February

Now in it’s eleventh year, Gisborne Golf Club hosted the first round of the North West Senior Pennant.  10 teams contest the event with Club Mandalay and Hidden Valley joining the competition for the first time this year.  A shotgun start at 11.30 in somewhat coolish conditions sent 80 players out onto a well presented course.

Gisborne GC were playing against newbies Hidden Valley. An excellent start from Gary Dickson 7/5 followed by Keith Fox and Colin Leech both winning 4/3 gave us a healthy lead. Needing at least another match and a half to take the points, Peter Buttigieg cam in 4/2 and stalwart Bill Dillon fought it out to the 18th for a half.  Giving us the match 4.5 vs 3.5.  Paul Treloar just getting pipped on the 18th and Martin Cunningham and Dick Barker fell to strong short game players.

The room was full for presentations and the feedback from our visitors was very positive.   Thanks to the ground staff for prepping the course and Jacqui, Mon and Jen for looking after us over supper.

The Seniors Pennant is open to players over 55 and there are 3 handicap bands – 2 players with handicaps from 0 – 9.4, 3 players with handicaps from 9.5 – 14.4 and 3 players with handicaps from 14.5 and over.  If you are interested in playing send me an email (rc.albany@bigpond.com) with your details:
