Treloar and Crawford crowned champions at Commonwealth GC

14 Aug 2019 by Golf Australia

Paul Treloar has been crowned the Commonwealth Senior Amateur Champion after returning a six over par score of 79.

For the third day in a row it has taken a countback to decide the winner, however this time Stephen Valentine did not come out on top. Two birdies from Treloar on the back nine were enough to separate the two. Stephen Pettyfor and Phillip Jefferey were locked on net 74 at the completion of their rounds to lead the men’s net section. Birdies on 17 and 18 for Pettyfor proved the difference and gave him the win on a countback.

In the women’s event, Melinda Crawford scored 19 scratch stableford points to run away with the title. The women’s stableford prize went to Saowapa McDowall with 24 points after nudging out Elizabeth Alston in a countback.

Gerrard and Stoettrup Champions at Victoria GC

Marianne Stoettrup was a runaway winner in the women’s scratch stableford at the 2019 Victoria GC Senior Amateur Championship after a great score of 21 scratch points. The women’s stableford section Colleen Warfield produced the best score of the day with 32 points to take home the title.

In the men’s gross section, William Gerrard won with a terrific score of 74. In brutal weather, Gerrard was consistent throughout his round to be victorious by just one shot. Gerrard, who plays off a daily handicap of 8, was consistent throughout his round with two late bogeys costing him an even par round. Finishing in outright second was Michael Doutch on 75.

In the men’s net, Marcus Padley had a fantastic score of 70 in the trying conditions. This was enough to win the event by two shots over Jun Zhang. The highlight of the day came from Andrew Pritchard-Davies who had a magnificent hole-in-one on the 166m par 3 16th.

The seniors will continue to Metropolitan on Monday for the Metropolitan plate before rounding out the August sandbelt events at Royal Melbourne on the 26th of August.

Do you think a glass or two were shared at the Treloar-Stoettrup household?
