Women’s Golf News 28-12-23

Posted on: 28 December

Hello everyone,

Hoping Christmas celebrations with family and friends were a great success for you.

Roll on 2024 !

The Golf Course was a bit soggy on Wednesday this week, after the tropical downpours on Tuesday and Christmas Day.

Baby galahs and the fabulous black cockatoos are busy and noisy on the course.

We saw the swan in the dam near the 3rd & 4th hole.

We only saw one swan….there were two in the lake on the 16th a couple of weeks ago. A yellow emoji with closed eyes

This is an invitation event for teams of three players from other clubs to compete for our Challenge Bowl trophy.

We host this event, and our Co Captains will choose one team of three players to represent us.

The 2023 Challenge Bowl was won by the team from Medway Golf Club with a total of 97 points.

Visitors from across the state enjoy coming to Gisborne GC for our Bowl, and our members traditionally provide homemade slices, tarts, and cakes for dessert. Our desserts are famous !

I send our invitation to around 65 clubs across the city and state, but some clubs internal communication systems are basic to say the least.

Therefore, if you have friends at other clubs who may like to enter a team in our Bowl, keep an eye out for the 2024 Invitation attached to a news email in a week or two, and you can forward to them directly.

Golf Rules – Unplayable Ball

POSTED ON: 27 DECEMBER

Ball unplayable.

You can declare your ball unplayable anywhere on the course EXCEPT in a penalty area (where the only relief option is Penalty Area relief as previously explained)

There are three relief options for an unplayable ball in the general area or putting green, all with one penalty point added to your score.

1. Stroke and distance. I.e. you may play from where the original ball was played. In this case you don’t need to identify where your ball is lying.

2. Lateral relief no nearer the hole . In this case the reference point is where your ball lies, and the relief area is within 2 club lengths of that point (no nearer the hole)

3. Back online relief. The reference point is anywhere on a line between where the ball lies and the flag and continuing back from where the ball lies.

Once you have established where you want to drop, you have one club length from that spot and the ball may roll within that club length, even if it rolls forward.

More detailed information and a video explaining the rule on the GGC website.
