Vale Maureen Kennedy

Posted on: 27 January

It is with great sadness that we advise members that former Ladies President Maureen Kennedy passed away peacefully on Jan 27th after a series of illnesses in recent years. All those who knew her are saddened by her loss and send their condolences to John and his family.

Maureen was a Ladies President of the the Club, Club Captain, a stalwart of the Ladies Committee and a leader in it’s social and sporting activities. She ensured that any of the events where she was involved were completed in a way that ensured the club was shown at it’s best and that those who played or just enjoyed the clubhouse were always at their ease. She worked hard to bring together members and their guests in an atmosphere of calm, enjoyment and pleasure. Her personality made her popular wherever she went and with anyone she spent time with. Her friends across the wide golfing community from the Murray to southern Melbourne will mourn her loss, as will all her friends within the Gisborne Golf Club.

She was a partner in a formidable duo with her husband John when they took over their roles at a time when the Club had experienced one of its most difficult periods. John was Club President during the recovery period and together with Maureen’s leading roles with the Ladies Committee, they steered the Club through the difficulties and were a major duo in laying the foundations for the success the Club enjoys today.

Maureen will be sorely missed for her friendship, her good nature, her humor, her involvement at the Club, her love of golf and her love of the GGC. The Club is grateful for her huge contributions in so many ways.

May she Rest In Peace.
