NWRGA Pennant – Round 2: Gisborne Vs Craigieburn Willmott
The Hogan’s Hero and Heroine’s team travelled to Craigieburn for their round 2 pennant match.
Hit off was scheduled early, at 8 am, which was a tough after several exploding Tobacco shops delayed the trip. By the time we arrived at the course, cigarettes had gone up 40 %. Thank God no one blew up a bottle shop.
Gisborne A1 pack leader Matty Lang started in fine form after surveying the course earlier in the week. However, after seeing a Fox carrying an Eagle, he halved the hole. But then he stabbed his thumb with a Craigieburn recognition pin, and his game went downhill after that. The Secret Selector finished all square.
Pressure was on Andre the Giant, Shane McPhee as his opponent was a very talented female player. Shane suffers psychological scaring from being consistently beaten by his wife Jo.
The big fella led all day until the 17th, where his opponent won the hole, and the match was all squared. You could see the sweat on his brow as he teed off on the last hole. But true to his character, he stood tall, halving the hole to square the match.
In other matches, Jack Rowsell, who snuck back into the team after we sent him off on an Adelaide Crows team building bus trip, won 2up. Solid as a Stratco shed in the wind, but looks ordinary behind a block house, Glenn Ford won 6/5. Matt Forrest Dean continued his 5-match winning streak which no one in the team knew about until Forrest sat down on a park bench and reminded us.
In the other winning match, there were some concerns the Colonel would not be capable of driving home, even with his 3-Wood, after he finished his match early on the 12th winning 7/6.
The book shop, Angus Roberton who was distracted by some marriage issues, decided to throw away his wedding ring in an attempt sever the knot. This only made things worse, losing the match 4/3 along with his house and most of his assets. The Bookshop is now sleeping on Forest Deans Park bench.
Roberta Henry in her first match in the NWRGA Pennant competition fought hard but went down on the 15th, losing 4/3.
Another newbie Steven Brne (yes, I spelled it correctly, he just needs to buy another vowel) lost in a close one 2/1. Johnny Windows, Buckley’s or none and “Watcha Talkin’ Bout Willis” all went down.
End result, Craigieburn won the match 7/5, but no cars were broken into, which we will take as win.
