North West Regional Pennant – Gisborne Vs Melton Valley

Last year’s North West Regional Premiers, Melton Valley travelled to Gisborne on Sunday to take on Hogan’s Hero’s and Heroines.

There was a real buzz in the air; you could almost taste victory with Kirk Douglas and Barry Aarons running out onto the course for the first time this season. Also new member Peter Jaeger “Meister” was putting the boots on for his first match for Gisborne.

The A-Team, Rowsell and Willmott, led out by secret selector Matty Laing all won their matches. The Marnoo marvel, Craig Wood took on one of the best women golfers from Melton, finally snatching the win on the 18th 2 Up.

Academy Award winner, Kirk Douglas who rarely gets beaten, played to his high held standard, winning on the 13th hole, 6 up.

Barry Aarons squared his match. Colonel Hogan and Model T were once again solid performers winning their third straight pennant match. However, on the 12th the Colonel was not happy with dead trees being left on the course, so he decided to remove them.

Roberta Henry confused the large spectator group on the 16th when she upped and down from the bunker to Par. The spectators cheered and some ran and hugged her, celebrating her loss, going down 3/2. If this is the crowd reaction when she loses, I can’t wait to see what happens when she wins.

It was a good solid win by Gisborne, beating last year’s premiers 8/4.

This week we head over to Club Mandalay who have entered the competition this year.
