Mr X Golf Stories June 2022 – Now that’s a bad start to a week….

Posted on: 1 July

Things certainly didn’t go David Davis’s way when playing his usual “Multiplier” game with his mates during his usual Tuesday round. After wiping the first, second and forth holes his team was looking in danger of getting a shellacking! The “Dave Davis” rule in multiplier is if you have three or more wipes in a round then any financial obligations (ie raffle tickets and/or refreshments) will be met by the perpetrator. Unfortunately for Dave his round continued on it’s downward trajectory with two more wipes before the pain was over. Dave is a man who would crawl across broken glass for a point so the loss meant a bad start for his week. Maybe the fault was optical? Determined to rectify the problem Dave goes straight to “Specsavers” for an eye examination and a new set of glasses. On the way home; only a drivers length from his front gates he notices grey smoke coming out from under the front bonnet of his car. This almost immediately changed to thick black smoke so Dave quickly pulled over just as flames erupted. He told his wife Sally to get out and run and was following her across the road when he remembered that he had left his golf buggy, hat and shoes in the back of the car. Despite flames jumping over the back seat he was able to  risk  singeing his beard and  save his golf equipment. Less than a minute later his car was covered in flames; a full right off.

After viewing the footage of the fire and hearing about his Tuesday performance his Thursday partner in the comp “Rob Allen” was heard to say. Dave should play “hot” today!

It is nice to have mates.
