Irrigation project update – 1st Feb 2024

We are very pleased to advise all members that preparation for the Irrigation project is progressing to schedule with two key milestones recently achieved – The signing of the Loan Agreement with Bendigo Bank and the contract with Thinkwater Melbourne, the company installing the system.

A schedule has been developed with a nominal start date of 1st April 2024 and a completion date of 19th August 2024. The start date is dependent on the weather as we need to be at the end of the watering season before we can turn off the current system and start the installation.

The project will proceed as previously described with the installation of the mainline over 4 weeks, followed by a hole-by-hole installation of all the laterals & sprinklers (tee, green & fairway). Typical installation times for the laterals & sprinklers are:   for Par 3s – 4 days;  Par 4s – 5 days; Par 5s – 6 days.

All holes will be open and playable as normal every weekend during the entire project.

The midweek hole disruptions will be as follows:

  • Mainline installation 8thApril to 10th May – up to 3 holes out of play at a time.
  • Hole-by-hole installation 13thMay to 12th August – 1 hole out of play at a time.

There will be two temporary greens created on the 6th and the 11th fairways. This will enable us to have two holes out of play and still play an 18-hole round. We will revert to 17 holes if we have 3 holes out of play during the installation of the mainline. This will only be required for mid-week golf.

For those of you who enjoy a little more detail, the installation of the mainline will commence from the pump shed and will proceed in groups of 3 holes as follows: 15,16,17 / 14, 13, 18 / 10, 11, 12 / 9, 6, 7 / 1, 2 8 / 3, 4 5.

The hole installation is sequenced to complete the wetter holes in the early stages. The sequence will be: 3, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 15, 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 18

We will continue to use the MiScore app to score competitions during the hole-by-hole installation but will revert to manual scorecards for the main line installation – midweek only.

Once the installation begins, we will provide you with regular updates on progress and the impact on golfers.

Whilst things may look a little different, and there may be some inconvenience along the way, we will ultimately enjoy the benefits of a state-of-the-art irrigation system which will serve us well for many years.

Best Regards

GGC Committee
