Equal Prize Money for men and women

The Golf Operations committee have been reviewing the prize money allocation for all competitions following a letter from a member requesting that women members receive equal prize money to men.

There was an anomaly with the current system where a men’s competition with 15 players would allocate $30 for first and $20 for second. A women’s competition would allocate $25 for first and $10 for second. This is clearly inequitable.

This prompted a complete review of all prize money for general competitions and for board events, including NTPs, etc. The result is a consistent formula that is to be applied to all competitions (men, women & open). The number of grades and the prize value will vary depending upon the number of players. Prize money will be equal based on the number of players in a competition. It does mean that the winner of the Saturday women’s competition will still not get the same prize dollar value as the men’s winner due to the fewer players in the women’s competition.

This review prompted a review of all competition guidelines, which have now been placed in one document.

These guidelines will be available on the portal for all members to review at any time.

The guidelines come into effect from the 1st of March 2023. The key changes are:

  1. The method for allocating prize money for all singles and team competitions. This change will increase the payout by ~15% based on average field sizes. Single competition prize table:
