Women’s Golf News 20/10/23

Posted on: 21 October

Hello all,

Wednesday’s golf competition was played in great conditions. A beautiful calm sunny day once again.

The course was in terrific condition.

Once again players took full advantage of the great forecast and the return of the “two tees”.

A number of groups chose to tee off the 10th enabling presentations to occur with most entrants in the clubhouse together.

The swooping magpie is on the 11th and 12th. He’s nesting in the large gum between the two fairways.

Put your umbrella up or your sunglasses on your head to deter him.

There were 30 entrants in the Wednesday Monthly Medal Stroke Competition.

From the website: Rules Update for Drop Zones POSTED ON: 19 OCTOBER

Hi Members – Please see below an update from Golf Operations re drop zones.

Drop Zones:

Gisborne golf course has drop zones on several holes around the course. Drop zones are used when it is impractical to take the normal penalty dropping procedures or in the case of hole 13 , non-penalty drop for abnormal course condition.

However, on hole 16 there has been some discussion as to the legality of the drop zone position as it is considerably closer than the normal penalty options available.

In light of this we contacted Golf Australia and explained the situation to them with detailed drawings and history of the drop zone ( to aid golfers who have difficulty carrying the water from the normal options).

The reply from them was…. “We can confirm that this is an additional option for all players , and in this case the committee has maintained the integrity of the hole by making the player negotiate the water, albeit with a smaller carry”.

Best Regards
