After making a blistering start to the 2022 season Gisborne’s fortunes in the past three rounds have cooled slightly,  seeing Gisborne topple from top spot to be currently third.  Ron Albany has been trying to find the right team combination, forensically going over the “Monday handicaps” to try and find the “in form” players.

This week’s team that took on Club Mandalay at Northern had the B and C grade scratch match play 2022 winners in Peter Buttigieg and Ron Albany as well as the A grade runner up in Paul Delia. Peter continued with his excellent match play form thrashing his opponent 10/8. Paul also had an equally impressive win 7/5. Murray Heazlewood won the last five holes the week before at Kooringal in his gutsy come from behind victory and was able to maintain this fighting spirit with a 3/2 win.  Despite losing 3-5 this week to Club Mandalay, Gisborne is still a chance to regain the top spot on the ladder in it’s final two games where it has been drawn to play two of the bottom four sides. Round 8 will see Kooringal and Melton Valley come up against each other in a game that could shape this year’s finalists.

This weeks game is to be played at Sanctuary Lakes where our Gisborne team will be trying to return to the winners list with a big win against 9th placed Werribee.
