Rules Update – 4th Hole – 19-09-23

Posted on: 19 September

Hi Members

With the changes to the 4th hole, there have been some questions asked regarding rules and what relief can be taken. Please see below,

THE FOURTH HOLE:   Relief

  1. Bunker
  • Ball rests against rake (movable obstruction) and moves when rake is removed. Ball is replaced in original spot, not dropped. No penalty
  • Ball is in abnormal course condition in bunker (temporary water or timber steps) the ball is dropped outside of the condition in the bunker, not nearer the hole without penalty.
  • The player may take relief from outside the bunker (back on line relief) for a one stroke penalty.
  1. Abnormal Course Condition – GUR
  • The newly laid turf on the left-hand side of the green is CURRENTLY GUR and the margin is marked by a blue line. Should the blue line not be clearly defined, the edge of the laid turf defines the margin of the GUR. The player must take relief by determining the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole outside the abnormal course condition (ACC). The relief area is one club length from this point. Complete relief must be taken, including stance. There is no penalty.
  1. Penalty Area – Drop zone (blue stake)
  • To be used as an option when the ball enters the penalty area closer to the hole than the blue stake. Drop within one club length. Penalty one stroke.
  • The timber retaining wall at the rear of the green defines the margin of the penalty area. Should any part of the ball be on top of or touching the timber, the ball is in the penalty area.

  • Should the ball be in the general area and the wall interferes with your stroke, you may take relief at the nearest point no nearer the hole. You are entitled to complete relief for swing and stance. The drop zone (blue stake) only applies if you are in the penalty area.

Best Regards
