Ray Keane 4BBB Knockout Results.

Posted on: 3 July

One of Gisborne Golf Club’s most prestigious Board Events, The Ray Keane 4BBB Knockout concluded on June 17th with John Orwin and Dom Hogan taking home the prize.

John and Dom played very steady golf to defeat Chris Barnard and Dave Erskine 4/2 in the Final.

A special thank you goes to all the pairs who qualified for the knockout rounds for the way the event was played. The process of the competing pairs organising their own day and time to play worked well and allowed for a deal of flexibility in the structure, rather than being locked into a timetable.

Johnny Windows and Colonel Hogan take out the Ray Keane 4 BBB.

The Karma bus finally pulled up and dropped Johnny “Windows” Orwin and Dominic “The Colonel” Hogan off at the Ray Keane 4BBB Honour Board on the 20th of June when they knocked over red hot favourites Chis Barnard and Dave Erskin.

Chris Barnard won this event 22 years ago in 2001 partnering with B.Paragreen, so it was only fitting he lay down in the final and let some other members get their names on the board. Although Dave Erskin was not all that ecstatic with this kind gesture from Chris.

The match started with Barnard and Erskin winning the first hole. But that was the first and last time the red-hot favourites held the lead. By the time they turned the corner at the halfway mark, Windows and the Colonel were 4 up and looking a bit too confident.

But after halving the 10th hole, the wheels fell off the underdogs golf carts as they convincingly lost the next 3 holes. Within the blink of an eye, the margin was back to 1, and the match play momentum had swung back to Barnard and Erskin as they took their game up a notch.

As they teed up on the 14th, Johnny Windows said to the Colonel, “we need to play like we are 2 holes down and not 1 hole up”.

Never were wiser words spoken by the Rock star guitarist.

The Colonel and Windows regrouped, did some mindfulness, channelled the Tigers 2017 premiership and went on to win the next 3 holes, closing out the match 4 up with 2 to play on the 16th.

Best Regards
