North West Regional Pennant – Gisborne Vs Club Mandalay

The Gisborne North West Regional Pennant team headed over to Mandalay on Sunday to play the newly entered golf club, Club Mandalay.

It was a critical match for the team, who needed to win to have the chance to make the divisional final.  To prepare for the match, 8 players headed over to Mandalay on Friday to get a feel for the course. And thank God we did as the course was an absolute challenge with the rough as rough as guts. Of the 7 team members who checked out the course, only 1 didn’t win or square their match.

Two new players were bought into the team, James McKibbin who prefers to be called McGibbin, and the unbeatable Keiran Haddad.

A1, James McKibbin led the team out competing against another 16-year-old from Club Mandalay. James finished his match on the 18th with a great up to square his match. This young fella eats pressure for breakfast.

Keiran had a BBQ on at 4 o’clock, so he cleaned his opponent up wining 9/7. I hope he has something on this Sunday afternoon, so he wins 10/8.  Keiran has not been beaten in his last 8 matches and would have won the MVP last year if some goose didn’t drop him.

Jack Rowsell who lives and breaths pennant won his match 3/2. Shane McPhee stood tall once again and squared his match.

The C-Grade went to their happy place, with the Book Shop Angus Robertson, Kirk Douglas and The Swedish Chef, Johhny Windows all winning their matches. Although we had to convince Johnny he did actually win. The D-Grade, who have only lost 2 matches out of 12 continued their great form with the Colonel leading from behind, winning his match 6/4. He was so focussed he tipped his remote MGI into a bunker. Model T Ford and What are You Really Gamwelling With squared their matches.

This Sunday we play our last match against Sanctuary Lakes. A Win or even a Draw will see Hogan’s Hero’s make the Divisional Final the following week.
