Golf Vic Women’s Pennant Wrap – Round 3

Posted on: 22 March

It was our turn to host on Sunday and fortunately Mother Nature turned on a spectacular day for us. Our team walked away with a 5/2 win over Green Acres on Sunday March 20. Despite solid wins by Marianne Stoettrup (5&4) and Jo McPhee (5&3), the remaining matches all went to the 17th hole and beyond. Debutant Gin Dalton acquitted herself very well, but unfortunately succumbed to her opponent 2&1. After both being down early, Mel Evans and Suzanne Velk dug deep to get their matches through to the 18th hole. Mel took the win 1 up, but unfortunately Suzanne didn’t quite get there finishing 1 down. Mel Daly and Kathy Richards were enjoying their time on the course and took 20 holes to get a result – both taking a win.

Whilst we’re sitting 7th on the Ladder after 3 rounds, we’re only 3 games behind 4th place Riversdale who we play next week at Northern. Ladder leaders Sandhurst are the team to beat (they’ve only dropped 2 of the 21 matches played thus far), so already the competition is on between the remaining 7 teams to try and make the final. Having already played Sandhurst and 3rd placed Woodlands we are in a good position to make a charge for the coveted final. As they say in the classics – watch this space.

Many Thanks to Matthew Duncan and team, Rules Aficionado Paul Barlow, Manager Jacqui Flinn, Course Super Dylan Knight and his team, the Gisborne Golf Events Crew, Volunteers Helen Flentje, Sue Cautley, Louise Le Leivre and Linda Lanham, Caddies Denise, Graham ,Jenny O’Connor and Helen and Members and Family who came out to support our team for making the day as spectacular as it was, and to our team’s major sponsor Elders Insurance Sunbury for their support.

Jo McPhee, on behalf of the Team
