GOLF OPERATIONS UPDATED VERSION – 02/02/2022

Posted on: 1 February

North West Pennant

Our Team sits 2nd on the ladder behind Eynesbury who we coincidentally play at home on Sunday Feb 6 in the last of the home and away rounds. Come along and cheer our guys on. A win should secure them a home final the following week (which I’ve pencilled in on the timesheet – no pressure Dom and team!). As always, please keep an eye on the portal for Dom’s weekly review.

Murray Heard Trophy

The winners of the 2021 Mid Week Monthly Trophies will play off on Thursday Feb 3 for this coveted trophy. Keep an eye on the scores of Steven Williams, Shane Aitken, Bryce Trotman, John Griffiths, David Arnold, David Tyquin, Shane McPhee, Ben Mansted, David Davis and Tom O’Connell to see who the victor will be.

George Rich Trophy

The winners of the 2021 Saturday Monthly Trophies will play off on Saturday Feb 5 (Gross scores converted to Stableford) for another coveted trophy. Keep an eye on the scores of Neil Tonkin, Ben Mansted, Alex Mazur, Neil Overall, Dave Callander, Graeme Maddern, Anton Grbac and Chris Payne to see who the victor will be.

Board Events Eligibility

A reminder that Lifestyle members are not eligible to win Board Events. If you’d like to take the next step and become a 6 (excludes Saturdays) or 7 Day member please contact Phil in the office and he’ll look after you.

2021 Men’s Club Championships

Commence on Saturday Feb 5.

As communicated late last year, there have been some amendments made to the conditions of play:

Eligibility

Previously, to be eligible to compete players must have been a member for 3 months prior to the event. We have now amended this to:

“To be eligible to compete, new 7-day, Young Adult and Junior members must complete 5 competition rounds at Gisborne Golf Club prior to the event.” The purpose of this amendment is to remove such a lengthy qualification period as well as ensuring a player’s handicap is relevant to our course.

Final Round Participation

There has previously been some confusion regarding the reference to the top 8 players in week four.

After the third round the top 8 scratch score players in each Grade are required to play in the designated times in the final round. This provides a true competition experience for both players and spectators alike. It also makes it easier to organise play offs (if required) after completion of the final round.

To be clear, all other players who participate over the four rounds of the Championships are eligible to win their respective Grade regardless of their place in the field after the first three rounds. For example, you may be coming 12th in your grade but only 3 shots behind the leader. As we know, anything can happen in the final round!

Grades

After a successful trial in the 2020 Club Championships, we have elected to continue with the A Reserve Grade.

The Grades are now:

A Grade: Plus to 4

A Reserve Grade: 5 to 9

B Grade: 10 to 14

C Grade: 15 to 19

D Grade: 20 and above

Merrill Livera Junior Club Championships

This event is held in conjunction with the Men’s Club Championships. To be eligible the Member must be under 18 years of age as at the date of the first round of the Club Championships.

Historically this event has been played over 4 rounds, however we have found that committing to the four weeks isn’t always easy for the boys so we have amended the event to a 54 hole (3 rounds) event (played over weeks 1, 2 and 3). Juniors are also eligible for the Open Club Championships too (naturally must compete in all 4 rounds).

J S Wilson Senior Championship (Gross and Nett)

Stroke play over 72 Holes and to be played in conjunction with the Club Championship. To enter this event the Member must be 55 years of age by the first of the month to be played. In conjunction with the Club Championships there will be a 54 Hole Handicap Event also. Gross Winner cannot win the Net Event.

WED Robinson Matchplay

We’re getting close to the pointy end of the competition, with Messrs Edwards, Laing, Apap and Tsamados making it through to the Semi Finals. Good Hitting to all.

Pennant

We’re still looking for Players and Caddies for the upcoming (Men’s) Pennant season. If you’d like to be involved, please let myself or Brendan Larkins know.
