Drainage Update – In the Trench’s

Posted on: 2 April

Members,

The drainage works on 12 and 7 are progressing, but a little slower than expected.  We have hit a number of irrigation pipes on both 12 and 7. These pipes are not at the 600mm depth that is the standard today. These pipes were laid before that standard came into effect. They can be easily repaired, but it does present a problem for this and future drainage works.

We started on the 12th and have almost finished. The remaining trenches have been filled with sand and the turf sods put back over the trenches. The 12th just needs a couple of finishing touches.

We commenced work on the 7th but had a breakdown with the trencher (a suspected seal broken on a hydraulic valve).
The volunteers laid aggregate, pipe & sand in the trenches that have been completed on the 7th.

The volunteers will recommence next Monday 4th April. It may take most of next week to complete the 7th. This will be confirmed after we get a full run at it on Monday.

Dylan and his staff have done a fantastic job. There have been many issues thrown up, but they have always found a way to proceed.

We have had a good turn-out of volunteers over the past couple of days.  We are fortunate to have some very talented people who are willing to contribute so much to the club. The team spirit among the group has been excellent.
