*IMPORTANT* Gisborne Golf Club Course Closure

Posted on: 28 March

Dear Members,

Things have progressed significantly, with Golf Australia just issuing a statement recommending that, based on the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services directive issued as part of the Victorian Government’s Stage 2 restrictions regarding COVID-19, all golf clubs and facilities should close as soon as practicable until April 13, 2020.

The directive that prohibits social sports gatherings applies to golf clubs and facilities, which are classified as ‘recreational facilities’ under clause 5 of the directive. (Refer to GA website for more info).

For Gisborne Golf Club this will come into effect immediately with our 2 week closure commencing tomorrow Sunday the 29th March through to Monday 13th April.

What this means for your membership?  With things changing so quickly, we are unable to give you a definitive answer.  So please continue to be your amazing selves and bear with us while we work through everything.

What we do know is that we are serious about our responsibility in supporting you all, keeping our mates safe and working tirelessly behind the scenes in keeping the gates open long term after this is all over (and as Phil eluded to, it will be at some point).

Our club, prestigious in so many ways, may be closed from tomorrow but our operation ‘GGC Comradery movement’ will still be in full swing (pun intended) and our communication will be flowing to you all.

This time, calls for adaptability and as such we are already working on special projects.  One being, setting up a live ‘Ricky’ cam where you can watch him cut the greens and keep the course in tip top condition for our return in a few weeks (jokes).

This is certainly unchartered water for us all, so remember, we are stronger together, stay safe, love big & do what you can for our community, if you can 🙂

Ps- I think you can all agree that things are going fairly smoothly so far for Alistair’s tenure as President (hold on tight Al)!

Thanks,

Jacqui Flinn
