2008 AIG AUSTRALIA PRO-AM
Wednesday, 5th March, 2008
The 2008 AIG Australia Pro-Am saw the return of tournament drawcard Jarrod Lyle, three years after he won the 2005 Gisborne Pro-Am. Although playing excellent golf and thrilling the gallery that assembled to follow him with an eagle two from 30m on the 372m Par 4 8th hole, Touring Professional Tony McNaughton upstaged Jarrod and other more fancied players to win the 2008 AIG Australia Pro-Am. An outward nine of 32 set up McNaughton’s round of five-under 67 and a birdie on his final hole sealed the two-shot victory on a course that was in brilliant condition. Sharing second was early pace setter, Growling Frog Assistant Professional Troy Hughan, who was later joined by seasoned touring pro Euan Walters on 69. Jarrod Lyle fired a two-under, 70 to finish in a tie for 4th.
Gisborne Golf Club sincerely thanks all sponsors who contributed to the event, especially AIG Australia for signing as the 2008 Pro-Am Principal Sponsor.
2007 MULBARTON PRO-AM
Tuesday, 3rd April, 2007
Playing in the afternoon sunshine on one of Melbourne’s best golf courses, Touring Professional Ben Bunny is fine tuned and ready for another campaign on the Canadian Tour following a win in the 2007 Mulbarton Pro-Am at Gisborne Golf Club. Bunny, who leaves for Canada next week, fired a five-under 67 to win by two from Luke Hickmott and Peter Nolan.
The victory capped off a great week for Bunny who also tasted success in the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation Charity Pro-Am at his home club, Southern on Thursday. “My game is in great shape and I head to Canada with a lot of confidence”. Having had previous experience on the tour there is no reason why I can’t win this year”, said Bunny.
With lush green fairways and excellent greens, professionals and amateurs agreed that the course is in fantastic condition and is one of the best courses they have played on for quite some time. Bunny will again be part of another strong Aussie contingent taking part in this year’s British Open played at Carnoustie Golf Links from 16th - 22nd July.
The event of course would not be possible without sponsorship. Gisborne Golf Club sincerely thanks all sponsors who contributed to the event, including AIG Australia and in particular Mulbarton (Gisborne’s premier housing estate), for signing as the 2007 Major Club Sponsor & Naming Rights Sponsor for the 2007 Pro-Am.
2006 MULBARTON PRO-AM
Tuesday, 4th April, 2006
If a new course record of 6 under Par, ideal weather conditions and a golf course groomed to perfection are the elements of a successful day, then the 2006 Mulbarton Pro-Am had it all. South Australian Touring Professional Nathan Kent outclassed a quality field to win the 2006 Mulbarton Pro-Am and in doing so equalled the score of 66 set by Jarrod Lyle last year. Kent, winner of the $25,000 TOLL Racing Eagle Ridge Pro-Am in December posted eight birdies in his round of 66, setting a new course record due to the remodelling of Par 3, fourth hole.
Having turned in five-under, Kent went in search of the course record only to succumb on his final hole with a bogey. “I am delighted with the way I playedĶconditions were perfect out there”, said Kent. In second place, a shot adrift were Touring Professionals Mathew Milne and David Diaz, both previous winners of the Gisborne Pro-Am on five-under 67. Diaz continues to display the form set earlier in the year in wining the Victorian Open and finishing 9th in the Johnny Walker Classic.
Gisborne Golf Club sincerely thanks all sponsors who contributed to the event, especially Mulbarton (Gisborne’s premier housing estate), for signing as the 2006 Major Club Sponsor & Naming Rights Sponsor for the 2006 Pro-Am. The club is once again looking forward to another successful Pro-Am next year.
2005 MARPEON PRO-AM
Tuesday, 5th April, 2005
This years event lifted to a new height when television advertising was purchased by the club and went to air on Channel 7 in the two weeks leading up to the Pro-Am. Recognising Gisborne’s annual Pro-Am as the ideal launching platform for its newly formed company, Marpeon purchased the Naming Rights Sponsorship.
US PGA Tour professional, Jarrod Lyle, displayed some outstanding golf to record a 6 under par round of 66, and in doing so, winning the title and setting a new course record. David Diaz, John Wade and Martin Joyce all tied in second position, a further four shots back on 70. Overall, 72 Professionals competed for their share in the $10,000 prize purse - an increase from last year’s $8,000.
Gisborne Golf Club sincerely thanks all sponsors who contributed to the event, especially Marpeon, for signing as the 2005 Major Club Sponsor & Naming Rights Sponsor for the 2005 Pro-Am. The club is once again looking forward to another successful Pro-Am next year.
